I presented 3 HPIs, 10 drug cards, and one journal article over the course of my site evaluations and I enjoyed meeting and learning from professor Melendez. We were able to speak about preeclampsia and an interesting case I had been a part of in which the patient had not “met” the criteria for preeclampsia while in triage but her labs showed signs of HELLP syndrome so she was induced and delivered that same day at 37 weeks. It was interesting to see how the guidelines are very specific but the patients might present in various ways and its important to see the clinical picture and not just the textbook definitions of diseases. I also presented several different medications which I encountered on my rotation like labetolol, oxytocin, and several others. I spoke about Late decelerations in my journal article as I became really interested in understanding and researching more about the fetal HR and had practiced recognizing the rhythms while on my rotation. Overall, I learned a lot during my meetings and felt intrigued by the cases I presented and the discussions that ensued thereafter.
