During my site evaluation, I presented on several cases, one of which being a septic stone patient and another being a bravo that trauma surgery was consulted for. I discussed the difference in when a lithotripsy is needed versus a PCN. I spoke about the importance of a primary and secondary survey and a trauma consult and spoke about the management of alcohol withdrawal. I learned the reason for hydronephrosis affecting kidney function, and that it decreases filtration due to hydrostatic pressure. I found these meetings to be challenging yet enjoyable and appreciated the learning that took place. I enjoyed reviewing what I had learned on my rotation and hearing more about the topics on a deeper level. I chose to speak about an article that discussed the size of a kidney stone remnant following lithotripsy that indicated that recurrent kidney stones is likely. I found it interesting to see that an algorithm could be created to predict this occurrence.
