Reflection on Site Evaluation

During my site evaluations, I chose to focus on two common urgent care cases for my HPI- Group A Beta hemolytic strep and COVID infection. These two cases came up a lot during my rotation and I found it to be really important to know how to recognize these infections and how to treat them in both children and adults. We spoke about different medications that I encountered during my rotation, a lot of which are prescribed for coughs. I found it really helpful to distinguish between expectorants for lower congestion and upper congestion. Lastly, we spoke about the Centor criteria and a systematic review that analyzed the ability of this scoring system to identify those with strep. It was recommended as I saw in clinical practice, to not use this criteria as many cases would be missed if it was solely used. I learned a lot from the site evaluation and got to hear about my colleagues experiences as well on their rotations.
