Urgent Care Site Visit Summary

During my urgent care rotation, I presented on several different cough medications like benzonatate and promethazine, both of which I encountered during my rotation with patients presenting with URIs and coughs. I also chose to speak about fluticasone as this was often given to patients for their allergic rhinitis. I chose to speak about Trimethoprim and polymyxin B and tobramycin all of which are used to treat different types of eye infections. I also presented cases on COVID-19 and Strep pharyngitis. These two conditions I encountered a lot during my rotation and knowing how they presented was important to my learning. For my article review, I presented on the benefit of the Centor criteria which is what we learned to use in our didactic phase but I did not see it used much clinically at the urgent care. I presented a meta analysis that gave the reasoning of why the Centor criteria might not be valuable in practice in place of medical judgment. I found my discussions with my site evaluator to be interesting and engaging and learned a lot about the different mechanisms of each drug that we used to treat our patients with. The other students who presented taught me a lot as well and I learned about identifying and treating chest pain as well as STDs.  Overall, it was a great learning experience and my discussions were really valuable for my growth as a student.
